The SolutionsPaper Makes New Editorial Appointments

GWAGWALADA, ABUJA: The SolutionsPaper has appointed Zainab Oyiza Adetola, Precious Ewuji and Rasheed Adebiyi into it’s editorial board. The three reputable journalists  joins the editorial board as multimedia editor, sub-editor and associate editor respectively.

Zainab Oyiza Adetola née (Sanni) is a media development expert with experience in investigative reporting and fact-checking. She holds a Bachelors of Science degree in political science from the University of Ilorin. Adetola is the founder of News Verifier Africa, a platform that innovates out-of-the box methods to ensure that fact-checks are inclusive and accessible. She won the Broadcast Category, of the Nigeria 2022 Reporting Migration Competition, organised by International Organisation of Migration (IOM).

Adetola is also a Fellow of the prestigious Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism and a 2021 awardee of the Wole Soyinka Award for Investigative Reporting. She is a 2021 Africa Solutions Journalism Fellow, focusing on the Climate and Gender solutions track.

Between 2018-2019, she worked as a media ambassador on the United Nation’s Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) joint campaign to end Female Genital Mutilation in Oyo State, Nigeria. She is a ConnexUs fellow, a recipient of the African Resilience Network grant to fact-check Covid-19 fake news and an alumnus of the Knowles Education and Charitable Trust for International Leadership.

Adetola joins the editorial board as the multimedia editor. In this role, she is expected to  bring her key expertise in broadcast journalism and media development to bear on the organisation.

“I am excited to join The SolutionsPaper editorial board. As one of Africa Solutions Journalism fellow, I desired to explore multimedia and empower local media to tell SoJo stories. I look forward to doing that in this new role” Adetola said.

Ewuji is a Nigerian freelance journalist and editor with interests in gender-related issues, social justice, and public health. She is currently undergoing a one-year writing fellowship programme at the African Liberty. She was selected alongside 49 other delegates around the world for the Future News Worldwide conference organised by the British Council.

Ewuji who has bylines in both Nigerian and international platforms joins the team as the sub editor.

“Joining the team as a sub-editor is a great privilege and honour for me. Solutions journalism is fast becoming an interesting niche in journalism. I am particularly excited to explore this field and produce great SoJo reports with the team” Ewuji said.

Adebiyi holds a PhD in Strategic Communication from the Department of Communication and Language Arts, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. He currently teaches at the Department of Mass Communication, Fountain University, Osogbo, Nigeria.

He is a solutions journalist, researcher and solutions journalism advocate. He is a 2022 Fellow of the African Solutions Journalism Initiative Fellowship. He is the Editor-in Chief/ Co-founder of AbitoCitta, a solutions-focused educational news platform in Africa. Adebiyi who also founded a Media Innovation Lab located in the department where he currently lectures, joins the editorial board as the associate editor.

Managing Editor of The SolutionsPaper, Chinonso Kenneth noted that the organisation is proud to be associated with the new editors and looks forward to achieving novel things together.

The SolutionsPaper is a multimedia outlet leveraging solutions, constructive and mobile journalism to tell alternative stories that will spur civic interest and participation in African development challenges. The SolutionsPaper also trains civic and early career journalists on solutions, constructive and mobile journalism across Africa.
